Sapodilla known as “chiku” in hindi is a long-lived, evergreen tree native to southern Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. It is grown in large quantities in Pakistan, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Mexico. Sapodilla can grow to more than 30 m (98 ft) tall with an average trunk diameter of 1.5 m (4.9 ft). It is wind-resistant and the bark is rich in a white, gummy latex called chicle. The fruit has an exceptionally sweet, malty flavor. Sapodilla contains three to five black, smooth, shiny, bean-shaped inedible seeds located at the center of the fruit. The unripe fruit is hard to the touch and contains high amounts of saponin, which has astringent properties similar to tannin, drying out the mouth.

3 chiku (Sapodilla)

1 cup cream

2 glass milk

5 tsp sugar

ice as required

Method:

  • Peel chickoo and cut into small pieces.
  • Take out its seeds.
  • Now blend milk, sugar and chiku in a mixer so that it is mixed properly.
  • Now mix half of the cream and again blend.
  • Put the shake in the glasses.
  • Put some cream and crushed ice in the glasses and serve it chilled.
